Open OnDemand (OOD) is an NSF-funded open-source HPC portal with the goal of providing an easy to use web-based interface to HPC resources.

To access the portal for Crane, simply go to crane-ood.unl.edu in any modern browser. Similarly, Rhino’s portal is available at rhino-ood.unl.edu. You will first be asked to login using your HCC account and then redirected to the portal. Full documentation for using HCC’s OOD instances is available at hcc.unl.edu/docs/open_ondemand/.

Currently, OOD offers a file browser, terminal, SLURM script builder (including job templates) and submit helper, as well as Jupyter notebook and interactive desktop apps. The interactive desktop app allows launching a full XFCE desktop environment transparently within a SLURM job, and is accessible directly in your browser with no additional software. Apps for other programs such as MATLAB, Ansys, COMSOL, etc. are supported and will be added by HCC moving forward.

Please contact hcc-support@unl.edu with any questions or issues you may have using the new HCC Open OnDemand interface.

HCC has made the switch to the new ticketing system and it is live. Emails to hcc-support@unl.edu will automatically go into the new system. If you have a currently open ticket with the old system, you may continue to reply via email normally. We will run both systems for a brief period to ensure all tickets in the old system have been closed prior to discontinuing its use. In the next week or so, we will also make available a web portal which you can use to submit and manage your tickets. Thank you for your patience while we make this transition.

Please send any questions or concerns to hcc-support@unl.edu.

HCC will soon switch to a new ticketing system to track support requests. We are planning to make this change at the beginning of next week, coinciding with the start of the new semester.

The hcc-support@unl.edu email will remain unchanged.

While the old system has been quite functional, the new system will support many new features. These include the ability to view and submit tickets via a modern web interface, mobile device support, as well as many internal features to improve HCC staff productivity. While there is never really a non-disruptive time to make such changes, we will work to make the transition as smooth as possible. New requests will automatically be forwarded to the new system; no special action is required on your part. We will run both systems for a brief period to migrate existing tickets to the new system. A follow-up email will be sent next week just prior to implementing the change with additional details.

Please send any questions or concerns to hcc-support@unl.edu.

This expansion consists of 21 GPU-enabled nodes, each with 2 x Nvidia Tesla V100 cards with 32GB RAM. This expansion more than doubles the amount of GPU-enabled nodes in Crane.

These nodes are part of the existing
gpu
partition. If you are already submitting GPU jobs to Crane, no additional changes are needed to utilize this hardware. The GPU resources on Crane consist of a variety of Tesla models. If you would like to request a V100 node specifically, you can do so by adding the
--constraint=gpu_v100
option to your SLURM scripts. Additionally, some nodes are reserved for priority access use. HCC supports opportunistic use of these nodes via a separate
guest_gpu
partition. For more details on opportunistic use, please see the link below.

Full details on GPU resources are available at https://hcc.unl.edu/docs/guides/submitting_jobs/submitting_cuda_or_openacc_jobs/.
