Upcoming Move of HCC’s Lincoln Office and Lincoln Datacenter 

During the month of September, HCC will be moving out of the Schorr Center as part of the Big Red Rebuild. HCC’s Lincoln office will be relocating to Nebraska Hall 310.

HCC’s general research resources will not be affected by the relocation.

Swan, NRDStor, Anvil, and Attic are located at HCC’s Omaha datacenter at the Peter Kiewitt Institute and will not be affected.

Purge Policy Reminder 

Any files stored on the $WORK filesystem that remain untouched for 6 months are automatically deleted to keep the filesystem performant and available. More details on the policy and how to view which files are about to be purged is available on our Purge Policy Documentation Page.

While the NRDStor filesystem does not have a purge policy, it also does not have any backups. The only filesystems with backups are Attic and Home.

HCC AI Resources

With high-performance and high-throughput computing clusters, GPU resources, large-scale storage systems, and specialized software environments, HCC facilitates researchers to develop, run, and scale modern AI/ML workflows. The main high-performance computing resource, called Swan, is the primary method by which to utilize GPUs for AI research within HCC. Most HCC resources are available to users on a shared basis at no cost, while Priority Access is offered on a cost-recovery basis. For more information, see HCC AI Resources. 

Good HCC Practices

HCC depends on the good citizenship of researchers and students to collectively provide a positive user experience on shared resources. With the Fall semester starting and the increased usage of HCC resources for classes, research and creative activity, we would like remind all HCC users on some Good HCC Practices. 

Student Class Data Reminder 

With the start of the semester, HCC would like to remind students using HCC resources for classwork as part of a class group about the Class Group Policy 

Namely, class group directories will be cleaned on the last day of the semester, December 18th. This includes locking HCC accounts created solely for the class and permanently deleting any student data in the class group directories. We strongly suggest students to move any important data from these directories elsewhere before December 18th. To continue using HCC resources as part of a research or creative activity group, please submit the Group Membership Modification Request.

I have an account, now what?

Congrats on getting an HCC account! Now you need to connect to a Holland cluster. To do this, we use an SSH connection. SSH stands for Secure Shell, and it allows you to securely connect to a remote computer and operate it just like you would a personal machine.

Depending on your operating system, you may need to install software to make this connection. Check out our documentation on Connecting to HCC Clusters.

I want to share data with others on Swan. How can I do that?

There are multiple methods of sharing data on Swan, including file permissions and Globus.

NRDStor by default has a shared directory for every group at /mnt/nrdstor//group_name/shared. The $WORK filesystem can have a shared folder, but needs to be requested through email to [email protected] and HCC staff will start the process.
